Meet your StuCo President and Vice President

By Laura Galbes & Lamija Skapur

It’s early June, and the 2024/2025 Student Council election campaign has come to a close. Campaign season brought a lot of excitement, as candidates offered unique ideas about how to enhance the student experience at ISA. Platforms were sophisticated and innovative, promising to foster community spirit, commit strongly to student advocacy, and focus on inclusivity.

With the results in, our Voice journalists caught up with President Elect Lilly Tanz, and Vice President Elect Shawn Tache. We asked them to share a bit about who they are and their vision for the upcoming school year.

Lilly Tanz is an 11th grader at ISA who has been on the Student Council for three years. Additionally, Lilly has been involved in the MUN and MUNISA teams. She enjoys being a club leader and swimming for the ISA Swim team.

Shawn Tache is a 9th grader at ISA who has taken part in several clubs such as the Student Ambassadors and the Bear Council. He participates in Student Council events often and loves to be involved in school activities, even volunteering to train the U12 Girls’ Football team.

Lilly and Shawn’s campaign garnered significant attention due to their innovative ideas, commitment to student welfare, and impressive leadership skills. Lilly underlines that they were inspired to take on this role as “both of us were in the student council, since Sean was a Grade level representative, and I have been on the student council for three years. I have seen the student council grow in its sphere of influence. Since we were both passionate about making changes we thought that we would make a perfect team!”

Shawn points out that “we should be able to bring more people together because after COVID you can see the community was significantly more separated, and people were more with smaller groups of friends rather than promoting the community spirit”. Therefore, he and Lilly want to promote that spirit by “expanding [their] sphere of influence not only within our grade or our friend groups but also throughout the whole upper school.”

Finally, our dynamic new President and Vice President plan to carry out specific initiatives. They are interested in sports-related events, supporting students in the arts, and making our school a better place for overall student well-being. Shawn addressed the topic of advocacy, noting that it is important to them to talk to students and say “Hey, what do you wish was different? A lot of people talked about having grade level trips…and we want to get students off campus.”

Lilly and Shawn’s commitment to enhancing student life through targeted initiatives in sports, the arts, and overall well-being combined with their proactive approach to addressing student concerns, position them as powerful, exciting leaders to bring about a more vibrant and responsive school community.

The Voice would like to congratulate all candidates on an excellent and inspiring campaign. We look forward to keeping up with Lilly and Shawn in particular as they guide our student body on an exciting journey for the year ahead.
